The Friends of Winsford Town Park
The Friends of Winsford Town Park was established in 2018 with the aim of “helping to make Winsford Town Park an attractive space for the community to enjoy”.
What the Friends do
Accessible roundabout, which the Friends
made a financial contribution towards.
Volunteers help to maintain the park’s planted areas and general tidiness, have planted thousands of spring bulbs, sown a large area near the Viewing Platform with UK native wildflower seeds, put up bird and bat boxes, painted the timber benches (and repaired any that need joints strengthening and timber replacing), carry out litter picks, stage ‘Party in the Park’ (an annual summer event), bring the Mikron Theatre Co. to Winsford to perform their popular shows in front of capacity audiences, contributed £2,000 towards the cost of an accessible roundabout, support other groups in their use of the park, and publish the Winsford calendar which raises funds for use within Town Park, and also for the group's chosen charity partner.
Charity partner
The Friends' charity partner is St Luke's (Cheshire) Hospice, located in Winsford, to whom the Friends have made donations from profits generated by sales of the Winsford calendar (£2,750 has been donated 2021–24).
Benches
The Friends have raised funds for the purchase of new benches and their associated landscaping.
"The Friendship Bench" was installed in 2021 in a quiet area near the top pool. Its name is derived from the group's name, "The Friends".
"Our Bench" was installed in 2022 near the lower pool. Its name was suggested by a group of teenagers who were asked what they would like to call it.
"Our Family Bench" was installed in 2024 as a companion to "Our Bench", in a newly landscaped location near the lower pool.
Manufactured by Blackpool-based Glasdon Group Limited, a leading supplier of environmental equipment, the benches are from the Lowther range and are in a traditional heritage design.
