Art in the park: Winsford Salt Stacks
Designer: Liam Hopkins, Lazerian Studio, Manchester, 2018
Winsford Town Park has eight tower-like wire sculptures which represent the chimneys of Winsford’s former salt works. With hundreds of chimneys discharging steam and fumes, Winsford was given the nickname "Dark Town". At their peak in the early 1900s, Winsford’s salt works produced half-a-million tons of table salt a year, made by evaporating brine.
